Ginkgo biloba extract works primarily by blocking the binding of platelet-activating factor (PAF), thereby preventing platelet clumping and improving blood fluidity. This mechanism helps reduce the risk of thrombosis and enhances cerebral blood flow. Clinical evidence supports its role in improving cognition, attention span, memory (particularly in dementia and cerebral insufficiency), daily functioning, mood, and sleep quality in older adults. It has also shown benefits in managing tinnitus and enhancing social interaction in those with cognitive decline.
May assist in managing sudden hearing loss.
60 mg capsules: Take 1 or 2 capsules per day or as advised by a healthcare provider.
Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
When used at recommended dosages, Ginkgo biloba is generally well tolerated. Across large clinical studies involving over 10,000 participants, side effects were rare and typically mild. Reported cases include headaches, dizziness, palpitations, digestive issues, minor bleeding, and skin reactions. Overdosing may result in gastrointestinal symptoms, restlessness, or fatigue.
Ginkgo should be used cautiously by individuals on blood thinners such as warfarin, heparin, or aspirin due to the risk of bleeding. It is not suitable for individuals with bleeding disorders or those with a history of intracranial hemorrhage. Discontinue use at least two weeks prior to any scheduled surgery.
There are no known adverse effects documented for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, but caution is advised due to limited long-term safety data.
Inform your doctor of any allergies, bleeding issues, seizure disorders, or if you are undergoing surgery. Ginkgo may influence blood clotting and should be stopped two weeks before any operation.
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
